UTILITYnet's support of our Community Energy Marketers’ business spans further than the systems we have built. We are actively in the market, buying and selling energy on a daily basis.
UTILITYnet has dedicated resources that organize, schedule, and finance the purchase of the total electricity, natural gas, and green energy needed to meet the aggregated demand of all consumers that are within our collective network.
By aggregating the supply of energy, this allows each Community Energy Marketer, regardless of its size or how long they have been in the market, to benefit from UTILITYnet financing and managing bulk purchasing power agreements and supply contracts.
Being part of a collective group has its advantages.
Electricity
Purchases are made directly from the Alberta Electric Systems Operator (AESO) based on the hourly floating price bid into the market by Alberta generators and as well, UTILITYnet unwrites the commitment and reconciliation of long-term forward market contracts, which are designed to give consumers guaranteed term rates.
Natural Gas
Purchased on the open market, in daily nominated volumes, based on the aggregated forecasted daily usage of all consumers. This is a physical purchase of natural gas which is injected into the pipelines of Atco North, Atco South and AltaGas for on-demand delivery to our customers.
Green Energy
Purchased on behalf of the Solar Club™, from biomass Forestry industry producers and PV Solar micro generators in Alberta.
